How do we teach young learners?

English classes for 4-5 year olds in Novakid have a special format. At this age learning the language is not the goal for kids. It’s not as possible to motivate younger kids with knowledge, good pronunciation or grades as it is at school. Instead, variation and exciting games carefully supervised by a professional English-speaking teacher help our little beginners to enjoy English before they begin ‘learning’.

Novakid classes are primarily aimed at interactive, natural immersion in the English language guided by a professional native teacher.

Why we start teaching kids at the age of 4-5

4-5 y.o students are able to develop the same basic background knowledge as native speakers. Learning children’s poems, songs, tongue twisters and rhymes leads to a better understanding of foreign culture and thinking.

    • At this age kids can easily imitate the behavior of an adult, like their tutor, repeatedly. Learning interactively with a native speaker when young is the most effective way of acquiring correct pronunciation, intonation, articulation, mimicry and gestures.
    • Kids at pre-school level are not afraid of making mistakes while speaking, so they do not have any language barriers.
    • The programme is focused not only on language learning but also on the overall development of memory, thinking skills, curiosity and learning through another language. The children will build their vocabulary implicitly and incidentally.
    • Adult learners tend to translate their thoughts from their native language into English. By contrast, little kids who learn in English can form their thoughts in English. By learning new things in another language without focusing on the language itself they gain knowledge from different linguistic perspectives and improve mental flexibility.

    Special Format of Classes

After considering all psychological and educational aspects we created our special course plan for 4-5 year old kids. In the classroom, our little preschoolers do not learn the language itself, they learn through it - exactly as they do in their native language.
Speaking English is not a goal; it is an instrument to explore the world around. Game-based tasks, videos, colorful presentations, friendly and a safe environment - every part of a Novakid class supports the learning process.

    Result at the Core

Games for a kid - hard work for a teacher. Teaching preschoolers in an entertaining yet effective way requires good planning and targeting for clear results. The results, which all our students should be able to achieve by the end of the course. The programme is based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). It prepares young learners for the next step - reading and writing.
