Hi hii , I’m reaching out because my kid is having so much fun with English assignment, but there's this one part where we're stuck. The assignment asks to use upon correctly, and it has us scratching our heads. One of the sentences was "The king arrived upon a golden carriage," and my kid is debating if that sounds right. 'Upon' is a preposition that can be used in a number of ways.
1. upon as 'on', pertaining to where something is
Example: The pencil case is upon the book. (The pencil case is on the book.)
2. upon as a part of a verb phrase like depend upon or insist upon
Example: My answer to your question depends upon what my mom thinks of you.
3. Upon can be used to show that something happens soon after, and often because of, something else
Example: Upon arriving at her friend's house, she was immediately seated and given a plate of food.
