Hello! A compound sentence has two or more independent clauses (complete thoughts with a subject and verb) joined by a conjunction like "and," "but," or "or."
"I don't understand" is an independent clause. It has a subject ("I") and a veExplain and Identify Compound Sentencesrb ("don't understand"), and it makes sense on its own.
"I'll do more research" is another independent clause. It also has a subject ("I") and a verb ("I'll do") and expresses a complete thought.
Both parts can stand alone as sentences, so when joined with "but," it forms a compound sentence.
