Confused About Adverb Placement Rule
Hello, thank you for the great question. Adverb placement can be tricky, but here are some common rules that you can follow:
- Before the verb:
- Adverbs of frequency (always/often/never) - 'She always arrives late'
- Adverbs modifying adjectives or other adverbs (very/really/quite) - 'The cake was quite delicious'
- Some adverbs of manner (carefully/slowly/easily) - 'She carefully dug the hole'
- After the verb:
- Manner adverbs (quickly/loudly/badly) - 'He sang loudly'
- Adverbs of place and time (here/there/now/then) - 'They live here'
I hope that these help a little bit in being able to decipher where to put adverbs. The more Adam practices, the easier it will be for him to know where to place them. It will start sounding natural to him.
