When to use "preterite" vs "imperfect"?
Hello hello! While helping my daughter with her Spanish homework, we stumbled upon a story exercise that required choosing between preterite and imperfect tenses. I thought it best to ask you for some guidance on when to use each tense.

Hello!

The ‘preterite’ or - Past Simple, is a tense which is used to convey that an action happened in the past, but wasn’t repeated or lasted long in the past; For example: He went to school yesterday.

The ‘imperfect’ or - Past Continuous, is a tense which is used to convey that an action happened in the past, but lasted longer; For example: She was going to school when she spotted her friend.

I hope this helps!
