Hi there

Thank you for your question. In English, we occasionally pronounce words differently to how it is spelt. This is when we use phonetic spelling.

The word aluminum is pronounced as follows; uh-loo-muh-nuhm OR U-loo-mu-nim. Also keep in mind that the American Chemical Society (ACS) officially adopted the word aluminum in 1925, but in 1990 The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) accepted aluminium as the international standard. And so we land today: with aluminum used by the English speakers of North America, and aluminium used everywhere else.

I hope this helps you and we look forward to answering any further questions you may have.
