Difference between 'Reliable' and 'Dependable' with examples
Greetings to you, Maria Kirilonao.
'Dependable' and 'reliable' are two different words.
'Dependable' is used to describe a person's (or a thing's) characteristics. If someone is dependable, he/she has a wide range of personality traits that qualify them to solve problems and lead others in any situation.
We can assume that the vacuum cleaner you were looking at has many uses like removing pet hair, cleaning carpets, killing fleas, reducing indoor allergens, and so on, which make it 'dependable'.
'Reliable' is used to describe a trustworthy person who can perform a specific task effectively. Someone is reliable if you know them to be an efficient worker in one situation, but aren't as familiar with how they handle other situations or tasks.
We can think that the vacuum cleaner is an efficient cleaning machine, therefore it is a reliable cleaning machine.
Furthermore, we can describe our dentist as a reliable person because they help us keep our teeth healthy. But, we can describe our friends as a dependable person because we can always ask them for advice whenever we need them.
