Am I Saying "Croissant" Wrong? Croissant Pronunciation
Today at breakfast, I proudly asked for a croissant, pronouncing it the way I always had. My kids French friend gave me a horrified look and corrected me with what sounded like a completely different word. I felt like I had just offended the entire French language. Teacher, what’s the proper way to say it?

Hello, Sakura.

I have had the same dilemma before. There was a time when I tried to learn the correct pronunciation of that word, but I still got confused whenever I tried ordering it. Another thing is, even though you are in any part of the world, saying this French word in any other language aside from its French pronunciation is somehow unacceptable.

So here it is: croissant is pronounced in French as /kwa-son/. French don't syllabicate words as English or Americans do. My advice is for you to not mind the spelling of this French crescent-shaped pastry and just remember its pronunciation.
