un\u2019<\/span><b>azione che era in svolgimento<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (background) <\/span><b>mentre ne accadeva un\u2019altra<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She was reading when the phone rang (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stava leggendo<\/span><\/i><span del <\/span><b>past simple del verbo essere, to be, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">unito alla <\/span><b>forma -ing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> del verbo style=\"font-weight: 400;\">)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Le frasi negative si formano, come sempre, con il <\/span><b>not <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">unito all\u2019ausiliare: <\/span><b>wasn\u2019t <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(was not) o <\/span><b>weren\u2019t <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(were not) poi seguito dal gerundio in <\/span><b>-ing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I wasn\u2019t working<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Per costruire le interrogative si applica come sempre l\u2019inversione soggetto verbo, e si comincia la frase con l\u2019ausiliare <\/span><b>was \/ were<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, seguito da soggetto e forma <\/span><b>-ing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Was class=\"blogHeadingText__content\">\n            <p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Come vedi, quindi il problema non \u00e8<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> come distinguere past simple e past continuous<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: hanno forme molto diverse che li rendono facilmente identificabili. Il problema \u00e8 \u2013 quando parli e scrivi in inglese \u2013 <\/span><b>scegliere quello giusto rispetto al significato<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> che vuoi veicolare.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ci sono casi in cui decidere quale tempo scegliere \u00e8 facile e chiaro, come nel primo dei nostri due esempi : She was reading when the phone rang. Ma ci sono altri casi in cui la scelta del tempo dipende dal punto di vista di chi parla.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Focus sull\u2019azione o sulla sua durata?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I tempi e i modi verbali sono come strumenti musicali: li scegliamo anche in base al \u201ctono\u201d che vogliamo dare al nostro discorso. E allora, nel nostro caso, nel raccontare un\u2019azione del passato possiamo decidere che cosa mettere in risalto: <\/span><b>la durata dell\u2019azione o il suo completamento<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">? Nel primo caso sceglierai il passato\u00a0 progressivo, nell\u2019altro caso il passato semplice:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>They were teaching Italian<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to foreign children to help them integrate into the community: chi parla ha deciso di sottolineare la durata dell\u2019azione, il suo svolgimento nel tempo. In italiano si tradurrebbe meglio con l\u2019imperfetto: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">insegnavano l\u2019italiano ai ragazzi stranieri per aiutarli a integrarsi nella comunit\u00e0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>They taught Italian<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to foreign children to help them integrate into the community: qui il focus \u00e8 sull\u2019azione propriamente detta, che viene data per conclusa. In italiano pu\u00f2 essere tradotto con il passato prossimo: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hanno insegnato italiano<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ai ragazzi stranieri per aiutarli a integrarsi nella comunit\u00e0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Esprimere la continuit\u00e0 o il momento esatto?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Un altro caso in cui possiamo chiederci quale tempo utilizzare riguarda il collegamento fra due azioni, entrambe avvenute in un periodo di tempo nel passato:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When the babysitter arrived <\/span><b>the children were playing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: qui abbiamo scelto il<\/span><b> passato continuo <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">per dire che i bambini giocavano prima, durante e dopo l\u2019arrivo della baby-sitter. Abbiamo quindi<\/span><b> scelto di sottolineare la continuit\u00e0 dell\u2019azione<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When the babysitter arrived, the<\/span><b> children started playing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: in questo caso il simple past <\/span><b>started<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ci torna utile perch\u00e9 per indicare<\/span><b> un momento esatto<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Quando non usare il past continuous<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nella grammatica inglese, esiste una categoria di verbi con cui non bisogna mai usare n\u00e9 il past continuous n\u00e9 alcun verbo progressivo (quelli che usano la -ing <\/span><b>form<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, per capirci). Sono i <b>verbi stativi<\/b>. Se hai fatto <a href=\"https:\/\/www.novakidschool.com\/it\/programs\/flyers\/\">inglese alle scuole medie<\/a> dovresti gi\u00e0 averli incontrati.
