In altre parole, non racconta solo che qualcosa \u00e8 successo, ma mette l\u2019accento sul fatto che quell\u2019azione era <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in svolgimento<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Puoi immaginarlo come una piccola \u201cfotografia\u201d di un\u2019azione passata: non ti dice quando \u00e8 iniziata o finita, ma ti mostra che era in atto in quel momento.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ad esempio:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I was reading a book yesterday evening.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2192 \u201cIeri sera stavo leggendo un libro.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Qui non importa quando ho cominciato o quando ho finito il libro, conta che <\/span><b>ero nel bel mezzo dell\u2019azione<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Un modo utile per capire il Past Continuous \u00e8 confrontarlo con il Past Simple:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Il Past Simple racconta un&#8217;azione chiusa, finita: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I read a book yesterday. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2192 \u201cHo letto un libro ieri.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Il Past Continuous invece si concentra sul processo in corso: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I was reading a book yesterday evening.<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Insomma, mentre il Past Simple d\u00e0 un\u2019informazione \u201cpuntuale\u201d, il Past Continuous ti porta proprio dentro la scena, come se stessi guardando la situazione accadere in diretta. Spesso si usa la forma contratta (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">wasn\u2019t<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \/ <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">weren\u2019t<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) soprattutto nel parlato e nello scritto informale. Per esempio: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">John was not listening. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">John non mi stava ascoltando.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Per le frasi interrogative devi mettere was\/ were all&#8217;inizio della frase, come fai sempre per le frasi interrogative con be. Per esempio: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Were you and Anna watching TV<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">? Come il Present Continuous, ma nel passato. Vediamo insieme i casi pi\u00f9 comuni in cui ti sar\u00e0 utile.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>1. Azione in corso in un momento preciso del passato<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pensa al Past Continuous come a una fotografia del passato: descrive <\/span><b>cosa stava succedendo in quel momento esatto<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, senza dire quando \u00e8 iniziato o quando \u00e8 finito. Hai presente nei film polizieschi, quando l\u2019investigatore chiede al sospettato: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhat were you doing yesterday at 8 p.m.?\u201d<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Cosa stavi facendo ieri alle 8 di sera?) Due azioni contemporanee nel passato<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A volte nel passato succedevano <\/span><b>pi\u00f9 cose nello stesso momento<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In quel caso usiamo il Past Continuous per mostrarle \u201cin parallelo\u201d. Entrambi i tempi descrivono azioni nel passato, ma il Past Continuous sottolinea il fatto che l&#8217;azione era in corso.
